This Evidence Check review examined the evidence for the effectiveness of deep brain stimulation in psychiatric disorders. It found insufficient evidence to support the use of deep brain stimulation as a clinical treatment for psychiatric disorders. The major focus of the review is on obsessive compulsive disorder and major depressive disorder but it also included the use of deep brain stimulation in the treatment of anorexia nervosa or an addictive disorder.
