Children will display sexual behaviour as part of normal development, however age inappropriate behaviours are considered problematic. Such behaviours may have long term negative impacts and can lead to increased risk of sexual exploitation. While several recent reviews have examined best practice treatment and prevention approaches, few studies relate to children under ten, and most have focused on discrete therapeutic interventions as opposed to holistic service approaches. This review used broader eligibility criteria with the aim of extending the knowledge base to explore effective service models. Despite this, the findings reveal a very limited evidence base, particularly for holistic interventions.
