There has been a rapid expansion in research literature about strategies to increase the use of research. However, there is little evidence of the effectiveness of different strategies. This review identified an urgent need for well-designed empirical studies to evaluate interventions. The review’s findings suggest efforts should be tailored to individuals’ and organisations’ needs and priorities. It found a strong interest in fostering collaboration between researchers and policy makers and proposes that these efforts include building capability in using research, facilitating access to targeted research summaries, supporting collaborative processes such as forums and networks, and enabling active involvement of policy makers in research.
