This Evidence Check review identifies selected potential health benefits associated with the provision of public transport. Proximity to public transport appears to be critical. Partnerships between health and transport sectors can change behaviour if adequately resourced. A range of 8-33 additional minutes of walking was identified for public transport users. Lower weight was a major health benefit and there was a dose-response relationship with greater improvements resulting from more minutes being walked per day.
