AgeWell – Health Insights of Ageing Australians

agewell research project

The AgeWell Research Project is a 45 and Up sub-study that aims to explore how data collected from sensor technologies, such as a wearable activity tracker and ambient sensors, can help us understand the relationships between an individual’s lifestyle, behaviour, and health outcomes. This insight will help us understand how we can use technology to enable the delivery of early, effective, and personalised healthcare.

Background

Selected 45 and Up Study participants have been invited to join this research project because 45 and Up Study related data, which they have previously agreed to share with us on a confidential basis when they enrolled in the Study, indicates that they live independently in the Greater Sydney area and are contactable by email.

Throughout the 3-month project, participants will be asked to wear a Garmin smartwatch activity tracker and allow the installation of ambient sensors (that look like a doorbell) in their home. No videos, audio, images or location will be collected by these sensors. Participants will also be asked to complete a series of online surveys and may be randomly invited to an optional face-to-face interview with a research team member.

Participant information

Information about the research project and what participants are asked to do is available in the participant information sheet.

Additional details about the home and wearable sensors are also available.

Research partnership

This research project is being conducted by CSIRO and the University of New South Wales and is in addition to the main 45 and Up Study. Participant consent is being managed by the Sax Institute, and data collection, sensor set-up and data analysis are being managed by CSIRO and UNSW.
