This was a pilot study which aimed to test the feasibility, acceptability, and cost of recruiting 45 and Up Study participants to provide a blood samples for biobanking, through a wide range of NSW Health Pathology collection centres. The research objectives were to:
• Assess the feasibility of NSW Health Pathology collection centres as collection points for 45 and Up Study participants
• Compare the collection of blood samples through NSW Health Pathology collection centres to those previously used, i.e. dedicated clinics and private pathology sites, in terms of feasibility, acceptability, cost and data quality
• Establish overall response rates for collection of blood samples and biodata from 45 and Up Study participants, and the effects of factors including distance of residence from the NSW Health Pathology collection centre, age, sex, socioeconomic status, functional capacity, and lifestyle
• Add the blood specimens into the existing 45 and Up Study Biobank.
