Change of Sax Institute Board Chair

The Sax Institute has thanked Dr Ian Pollard AM for his leadership and contribution as he stepped down as Chair of the Board.

Dr Pollard joined the Sax Institute Board in December 2023 and became Chair in January 2025, bringing more than four decades of experience as a company director and chair across the corporate and not-for-profit sectors.

He will remain a Director for up to six months to support an orderly transition. Longstanding Sax Institute Director Kim Anderson AM is the new Chair and brings extensive leadership and governance experience.

During his time as Chair, Dr Pollard helped guide the Institute through an important period of organisational renewal, including a significant strengthening of its financial position and the development of its new 2026–29 strategy.

Sax Institute CEO Dr Martin McNamara thanked Dr Pollard for his leadership and contribution.

“Ian has brought enormous experience, judgement and commitment to the Sax Institute during an important period for the organisation.

“His focus on strong governance, long-term sustainability and ensuring we have the foundations to deliver on our mission has been invaluable. On behalf of the Institute, I want to thank Ian for his leadership and for the generous way he has shared his expertise with our Board and Executive team.”

Reflecting on his time as Chair, Dr Pollard said he was pleased to be stepping down at a time when the Institute was strongly positioned for its next phase.

“Sax has a distinctive position in Australia’s health and research landscape. Its independence, significant research infrastructure and trusted relationships enable it to bring together different parts of the system to help address complex health challenges.

“Following a period of considerable change, the Institute is on a stronger and more sustainable footing, with a clear strategy and strong momentum across its work. I have greatly valued working with my fellow Directors, Martin and the Executive team, and I look forward to seeing Sax continue to build on these strengths.”

Dr McNamara said the Institute would continue to build on the foundations strengthened during Dr Pollard’s tenure as it moves into the next phase of its strategy.
