Medical technicians provide support to medical professionals in various ways including operating medical equipment and performing or assisting with patient assessments or tests. As technology advances over the next decade, it is expected this will impact the operation of these workforces and the skills required. This review focuses on the current and emerging science, technology and procedural issues relevant to technician workforces in neurophysiology and operating theatres. The findings suggest future technicians will need to be proficient in programming and operating technologies as well as managing and interpreting data. Alongside this, additional technical and safety training and certification may be a requisite.
