This Evidence Check review examined interventions to reduce prescribing for antibiotics for urinary tract infections, skin infections and sexually transmitted diseases. There is a definite lack of data reporting on effective interventions to improve antibiotic prescribing guideline adherence. Variable efficacy was reported from strategies including single and multi-modal interventions and the majority reported short term changes. Multi-modal, face-to-face educational interventions are a promising area for further research into sustainable and effective strategies to improve guideline adherence.
