This Evidence Snapshot is a rapid review of current knowledge about aerosol transmission of COVID-19. The review found overall inconclusive evidence regarding the extent of aerosol transmission of SARS-CoV-2; from the evidence available it appears that transmission is likely to occur on a spectrum between droplet and airborne transmission with a number of patient, disease and environmental factors influencing the risk of infection. One systematic review found that horizontal transmission is possible at up to eight metres. Nineteen articles were reviewed: one systematic review, seven observational studies, three experimental studies, four reviews, and four commentaries.
