This Evidence Check reviewed recent evidence on risk and protective factors for mental ill health and mental wellbeing. It also aimed to identify effective interventions for mental ill health prevention and positive mental wellbeing promotion. The review will support development of VicHealth’s submission to the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System. Of particular interest were Australian and international interventions which have been delivered at scale and targeted at the population, community or organisational level for the following risk/protective factors: online support, social isolation and loneliness/social support, childhood trauma, housing and homelessness, employment, and income inequality.
