This Evidence Check review examined the evidence around financial incentives to modify health behaviours and improve health. It found few established programs and little rigorous evaluation. The review concluded that the evidence does not support widespread use of financial incentives for behaviour change. It stated that there may be a limited role for financial incentives which reduce or remove barriers to a desired behaviour but that such programs require careful planning and development and a commitment to evaluation.
