This Evidence Check examined evidence for the effectiveness of peer-led interventions for reducing alcohol and other drug (AOD) related harms in at risk youth. The most common forms of peer-led education programs involved coaches or peer-support workers to assist the uptake of intervention content and processes within a peer group. Several models were shown to be effective in preventing AOD use. A number of key components were common across the peer-led intervention programs with demonstrated effectiveness. Evidence from Australia was lacking, however the review identified several examples of peer-led drug use prevention at festivals and community events.
