This Evidence Check review examined the knowledge, attitudes and beliefs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians about cancer and their susceptibility to cancer. The review also analysed available evidence about the effectiveness of programs and interventions targeting cancer prevention, detection and treatment. The results highlight the vital role of Aboriginal health workers in cancer control programs, and identifies several successful elements of interventions. The authors note the need for improvement in data quality and quantity.
