Investigator: Louisa Jorm (CI). This project sought to describe the characteristics of 45 and Up Study participants who are high users of hospital services, including demographic, lifestyle, health, social and other factors. Small numbers of individuals who are high users of health services make a major contribution to the costs of health care, in both the public and private sectors. Knowing more about the characteristics of these individuals, the health problems that they have, and their patterns of service use, will better inform policy interventions to improve the health of these individuals, and reduce or optimise their service use.
