This Evidence Check review examined the costs and impacts on the economy and productivity due to mental illness. This review is one of two commissioned by the Mental Health Commission. Forty five studies from Australia, Canada, the UK and New Zealand were included in the review, which found a lack of evidence related to the costs and impacts of mental illness. However, more recent efforts have taken advantage of the availability of linked data to enable a better understanding of the trajectory of mental health disorders.
